Mō te tūnga | About the role:

The key objective of the Family Whanau worker roles is to deliver the Family Start Programme to families in their homes, improving health, education and welfare outcomes. You will provide effective, professional, and culturally sensitive social services for children, young people and thier families, following the key objectives and principles of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989.

This is a permanent full-time position in Invercargill (40 hours per week).

Ngā kawenga | Key responsibilities:

  • building and maintaining relationships with families 
  • undertake Family Start programme needs assessments
  • developing, reviewing and monitoring family plans
  • attending and actively participating in supervision sessions

Ngā pūkenga | What you will need to be successful:

  • a tertiary qualification in social services, health, education or a related field (consideration will be given to candidates who are nearing completion of their qualifications)
  • to be a member of a professional association or be willing to work towards joining
  • a working knowledge of Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and other relevant NZ legislation
  • experience and passion for working with children, young people, and families
  • the ability to prioritise and manage caseloads effectively
  • previous experience working collaboratively with colleagues and external providers from other disciplines
  • the commitment to providing services in the spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • a current full clean New Zealand driver’s licence
