Mō te tūnga | About the role:

This rewarding volunteer role carries a generous, non-taxable allowance paid to approved foster carers. The allowance is $54,500 per annum. Additional costs relating to the child or young person are paid by the agency. 

We urgently need to recruit people who have a passion for making a difference in the life of a child or young person (up to 18 years) to become foster carers in the Invercargill area. Especially those with a willingness to be trained and supported to provide one-on-one tailored care for children and young people with complex needs.

After induction training we provide full wraparound support for our foster carers, which includes:

  • access to 24/7 support
  • weekly visits from a dedicated social worker
  • ongoing training and development
  • connection to support groups specifically for foster carers.

Ngā pūkenga | What you will need to be successful: 

We are looking for applicants who are:

  • able to relate well to children and young people 
  • able to provide a safe and secure home situation 
  • patient and empathetic
  • good listeners
  • able to build strong relationships with children and young people
  • confident in setting clear boundaries and following through with consequences
  • open to new learning opportunities
  • able to work as part of a team

This type of foster care is ideally suited to individuals or couples without dependent children living at home. However, we may be able to consider applicants with children, depending on individual circumstances.
