Mō te tūnga | About the role:

As our lifestyle coordinator you will play a central role in enriching the lives of kaumātua (elders) by designing and delivering innovative, meaningful, and culturally appropriate daily experiences tailored to their individual physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cultural needs,  This permanent, 30-hour-per-week role is based in our dementia unit, Iona at Peacehaven, where you will support up to 46 kaumātua living with cognitive challenges to engage in purposeful and enjoyable activities. 

This position requires leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating activities that not only promote engagement but also enhance well being and a sense of purpose among kaumātua. The role demands strong collaboration with clinical teams, whānau, and the wider community while upholding the organisation’s core values of respect, compassion, whānau, community, and accountability 

Ngā kawenga | Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, dementia-appropriate daily experiences that enhance the well being, independence, and enjoyment of our kaumātua. 
  • Create monthly and weekly plans that reflect each person’s cultural identity, interests, and abilities, in collaboration with whānau and the care team
  • Lead and coordinate group experiences and community outings, ensuring safety, participation, and meaningful engagement for all involved 
  • Communicate effectively with kaumātua, whānau, and team members, fostering strong relationships and ensuring everyone is informed and involved. 

Ngā pūkenga | What you will need to be successful:

  •  Dementia LCP (Level 4), Health & Wellbeing (Level 4) or a Diversional Therapy qualification
  •  Previous experience in a similar role, supporting elderly clients, with a genuine passion for enriching their daily lives
  •  Confidence in leading groupexperiences, mentoring others, managing timetables, and coordinating events and outings 
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with whānau, colleagues, and clinical teams in a supportive and respectful way
  •  A current full driver’s licence is essential, along with the confidence to drive a van for community-based activities and outings.
